The cautious sentiment surrounding BYOD (bring your own device) and initial resistance which it faced has suddenly seemed to evaporate and is seen to be slowly emerging as a top IT initiative, thanks to companies like Fluke Networks (News - Alert).
Introducing a new BYOD Classification capability in the form of patent pending AirMagnet (News - Alert) Wi-Fi Analyzer PRO (10.5) and AirMagnet Enterprise (10.6), Fluke Networks is helping to introduce greater visibility into smart device type, operating system and usage details without the need to deploy end-user software agents, according to officials.
As more devices come onto corporate networks, network engineers will be challenged to optimize the network for BYOD in real-time, and instantly identify and take action when unauthorized devices or rogues appear.
With Gartner (News - Alert) predicting almost 821 million smart devices to be purchased worldwide, disparate devices, platforms, various operating systems will make their way onto the network, challenging overburdened IT staff to protect critical resources from cyber attacks and intruders.
Fluke Network’s new BYOD Classification feature is expected to help streamline the managing of authorized smart device and also arms companies with tools to track unauthorized smart devices, ensuring that the network performs optimally and is always protected.
"Today's wireless engineer is only as good as the information he or she can get about the network and its activity. The new capability in AirMagnet Wi-Fi Analyzer PRO and AirMagnet Enterprise instantly gives them the intelligence needed to optimize the network for smart device usage or take action against possible smart device threats," said Chia-Chee Kuan , vice president and general manager, WLAN business unit at Fluke Networks, in a statement.
Thus, the cost and time needed to optimize and secure a wireless network for authorized and unauthorized smartphones and tablets, is drastically reduced.
Existing users or gold members can download a software update from the company website. For others, it is currently available from Fluke Networks.
Fluke Networks announced a new version of the OptiView XG v9 network analysis tablet that provides network professionals with an intuitive, graphical view of network infrastructure to help speed root cause identification and resolve issues fast. With two thirds of network engineers troubleshooting unfamiliar infrastructure, the new Network Navigator capability reduces the time it takes to understand network issues by instantly and simply displaying network topology and problems.
