IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS
) has gotten a lot of press recently because of its potential to greatly simplify the delivery of converged services. Rather than have to maintain multiple platforms for delivering multiple services, the logic goes, IMS as a converged platform can cut carrier expenses while opening the door on new revenue streams.
But does the business case for IMS really add up? A session featuring industry experts, at the upcoming INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO West 2007 in Los Angeles, will answer this question. Ray Adensamer, senior manager of product marketing at RadiSys (News - Alert); Vijay Bhagavath, senior strategist at Siemens Communications’ office of the CTO; and Ronald Gruia, principal analyst at Emerging Telecom will clearly spell out the business case for IMS.
Attendees of the “Business Case for IMS” session (scheduled for Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 1:30-2:15 p.m.) will come away with a new understanding regarding the business issues surrounding this communications market segment.
Ray Adensamer from RadiSys also will be co-presenting another, related session about IMS at the show. He and Stephen Susina, senior product manager at Core Switching Product, will discuss a more specific aspect of IMS during the “IMS & Fixed/Mobile Convergence” session.
This session, scheduled for Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from 10:15-11:00 a.m., will look at the promise IMS holds for delivering fixed/mobile convergence services using a single, standardized platform. Consumer demand indicates that the cost savings and productivity enhancements offered by FMC services will generate 100 million subscribers in the next five years.
Adanesamer and Susina will discuss whether or not it makes sense for providers to build out fully-compliant IMS architecture before launching new services or wait and take a more incremental approach by introducing FMC first and the evolving to delivery using IMS as the market develops.
While you’re waiting for the show to start, and these sessions to get underway, more information about IMS can be found on RadiSys’ TMCnet.com channel, ATCA. Information about registering to attend ITEXPO is here.
