RadiSys Snags NGN Leadership Award

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Embedded solutions provider RadiSys (News - Alert) Corporation has received the 2009 NGN Leadership Award from NGN (Next Generation Networks) Magazine for its Convedia Media Server.

The RadiSys Convedia Media Servers support a broad set of IP audio, video, speech and fax media processing features that are often essential for next-generation telecommunications applications.

The system, says David Smith, general manager of RadiSys Media Server Business Unit, is designed to enable fixed mobile convergence by delivering a shared IP media processing resource for any access network, including wireless, broadband, cable, Public Switched Telephone Network or satellite.

The NGN Leadership Award was established to recognize outstanding achievement in the IP Communications community, including outstanding products, services and technologies relating to IMS and NGN environments. RadiSys was recognized for its innovative addition of the Voice Quality Enhancement (VQE) feature set to its Convedia Media Server family.

“RadiSys’ integration of VQE into its media server family is a great example of innovative thinking that addresses the challenges and opportunities of next generation networks for IP communications,” said Rich Tehrani, president of TMC (News - Alert), publisher of NGN Magazine.

As TMCnet recently reported, RadiSys announced new Voice Quality Enhancement features for RadiSys Convedia Media Server. The new solution reportedly eliminates common sources of poor quality such as noise, packet loss and echo, in VoIP conferencing applications.

RadiSys’ pioneering integration of a comprehensive VoIP audio quality improvement package with existing IP media processing capabilities is an industry first among IP media server vendors, according to Smith.

This latest innovation from the Oregon-based company enables conferencing service providers (CSPs) and their VoIP application development partners to address both IP media processing and VoIP quality improvements in a single network element. The integrated media server minimizes network complexity and CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) costs, while improving audio quality for a broad range of VoIP and IMS services.

RadiSys will be hosting a free webinar titled “Untapped Opportunities in Audio Conferencing” on May 4, 2009. For more information please visit sign up page here.
