ADLINK Debuts 24-port GbE ATCA Base Switch Blade

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Web Editor

ADLINK Technology (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of high-availability telecom computing products has announced the debut of the aTCA-3150, a 24-port GbE AdvancedTCA “ATCA” Multilayer Base Switch Blade based on the Broadcom (News - Alert) BCM56312 switch chip.

The aTCA-3150 meets the bandwidth switching requirements for applications such as IP Multimedia Subsystems “IMS” servers, media gateways, 3G wireless, network monitoring, Unified Threat Management servers, packet inspection servers and enterprise media servers.

It also supports up to thirteen GbE ports for a 14-slot PICMG (News - Alert) 3.0 ATCA system, with six egress GbE ports and two 10GbE SFP+ uplink ports via front panel access. The ADLINK aTCA-3150 incorporates Broadcom's FASTPATH® networking software and is designed for ATCA adopters (NEPs & TEMs) who require AMC modularity, Gigabit layer 3 switching, a scalable control-plane engine and high-availability Base Interface.

ADLINK's aTCA-3150 is equipped with Broadcom's FASTPATH networking software. The feature set and integration capabilities of FASTPATH enable powerful networking capabilities for the Base Interface. It also assists hardware in switching frames and provides comprehensive device management to the network administrator.

The aTCA-3150 provides a COM Express Type 2 site for expansion with a processing sub-system, allowing users to tailor processing power to application demands. Two mid-sized AMC bays for I/O expansion are also supported to suit the needs of different applications.

"The aTCA-3150 is an overall switch blade solution for the next generation of bandwidth-intensive ATCA based network devices in telecom applications," said Eric Kao, Director of ADLINK's Modular Computing Product Center. "We provide a complete solution with FASTPATH networking software incorporated into the ATCA switch blade. For flexible expansion, a COM Express sub-system and dual AMC bays are also supported. The aTCA-3150 is an ideal solution for ATCA platform adopters who require high speed, high bandwidth and high flexibility."

The aTCA-3150 provides 10/100/1000Base-TX GbE and layer 3 switching on Base Interface with support for 14-slot shelves. It offers six front panel RJ-45 egress Gigabit Ethernet copper ports plus two 10Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ optical uplink ports in connection with the Base Interface domain. The aTCA-3150's switch blade design incorporates a powerful Freescale (News - Alert) MPC8313E PowerQUICC® II Pro 333MHz processor for local management functions. This processor is used for managing the BCM56312 GbE switch and for hosting the FASTPATH networking software switching and management modules.
