Knology, Inc., a provider of interactive communications and entertainment services for residential and business customers, recently announced it will use now use VoIP applications and switching infrastructure from Metaswitch Networks.
The service provider was facing fierce competition and recognized the need to innovate service offerings. For these two reasons it decided to form alliance with Metaswitch, a provider of advanced carrier services that are powering the migration of communications networks to open, next-generation architectures.
Knology (News - Alert) migrated its whole base of legacy voice switches and existing application servers to a comprehensive Metaswitch solution of universal media gateways, application/feature servers and developed network management to keep up with the developing technologies and changing business models.
Tony Palermo, the vice president of marketing at Knology, stated that Knology has a proud and storied history of offering their customers with high-value and pioneering services since they started in 1896 as a telephone company.
Palermo noted Metaswitch Networks' superb track record of leadership in the industry and said that it has experience in migrating networks to IP as well as delivering a constant stream of new applications that keep subscribers satisfied. Metaswitch Networks is an established supplier to cable MSOs. They are also strongly committed to R&D and customer support, making them an ideal partner.
A main factor that lead Knology to its decision was the experience of Metaswitch Networks in providing comprehensive business group features, advanced residential features, wireless service integration and, SIP trunking and IP Centrex solutions.
David Ashby, the vice president at Metaswitch Networks, said that they are very pleased to have been selected by Knology after a lengthy selection process. Aside from the technology, there are also other factors that made it an evident partnership. Knology and Metaswitch Networks have similar values of delivering what was promised and collaborating as a team. Both companies are also dedicated to excellence.
