Wireless Voice Core Market Records Highest Revenue since 2008: Report

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor

Market research firm Dell’Oro Group has announced the release of a new report that tracks the Wireless Voice Core market. The report, ‘The Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro Group Carrier IP Telephony Quarterly Report,’ presents a study of wireless softswitches, wireless media gateways, and legacy mobile switching centers deployed in service provider mobile networks.

It covers details such as revenue, shipments and average selling prices.

“Our new coverage on the wireless voice core market further illustrates Dell’Oro Group’s commitment to expand coverage in the mobile infrastructure market that we first started tracking almost 10 years ago,” said Tam Dell’Oro, President of Dell’Oro Group. “This new program is prepared with the same detailed methodology that has established us at the source for quality telecom market research since I started the company in 1995,” she added.

According to the report, market revenues rose by more than 10 percent to $1.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2009. This was the highest revenue since 2008.

“The fourth quarter was the silver lining last year for the Wireless Voice Core market,” said Greg Collins, vice president at Dell’Oro Group. “The market is still far from the level reached in 2008; however, we believe the market has stabilized and will not continue to see the steep revenue declines seen from 2008 to 2009,” he added.

The report also points out that major industry players Huawei and ZTE (News - Alert) have been successful in capturing significant share in 2009 all thanks to their expansion in high-growth developing regions of Asia Pacific, EMEA, and Latin America.

The report also throws light on the wireline segment which includes softswitches, media gateways, session border controllers and voice application servers.
