Metaswitch Networks rang up a pretty good 2009, closing the year with 250 customers for the Network Protocols Division, more than 500 for the Carrier Systems Division, and – the company just learned last month -- a 2009 Product of the Year award from TMC’s (News - Alert) INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.

 

Recipients of the 12th Annual Product of the Year Awards represent “the most innovative new products,” TMC officials said. INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine has covered the IP communications industry since 1998.

 

“After receiving hundreds of applications again this year, judging the products was difficult but I am confident that the selected winners are dedicated to quality and the growth of the IP communications industry,” said TMC group editorial director Erik Linask (News - Alert).

 

Metaswitch was cited for its SIP Trunking solutions, with company officials remarking in October that “carriers including Birch, LightBound and Fibernetics are finding that the feature richness, field-proven interoperability, and reliability of the MetaSphere platform enable them to differentiate their offerings and win in this increasingly competitive market.”

 

The Metaswitch Business IP Trunking offering interoperates with a wide range of IP-PBX (News - Alert) products while “simultaneously supporting a rich, complementary set of hosted features that include voicemail, auto-attendant, find me follow me, and conferencing services,” company officials said.

A Metaswitch customer since 2005, Birch Communications is a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier offering voice and broadband communications services to businesses in 31 states. Birch Communications is using the Metaswitch Business IP Trunking platform to reduce trunking costs and lay the foundation to offer services that were not possible in a legacy environment.

 

“Over the next 12 months, Birch Communications will complete its Metaswitch network migration to support SIP trunks for up to 80,000 lines,” Metaswitch officials said.
