Cell Phone Data Eraser Celebrates First Anniversary

Cell Phone Data Eraser is celebrating its first anniversary. Since its introduction on WirelessRecycling.com in July 2006, over 500,000 visitors have used the free tool.

Cell Phone Data Eraser is an online reference tool that is continuously updated to guide people in safely and securely erasing cell phone data, like e-mail correspondence, personal security passwords, pictures and text messages from over 600 cell phone models and more than 20 manufacturers.

ReCellular (News - Alert) Inc., the world's foremost collector, reseller and recycler of used cell phones and accessories, has designed the Cell Phone Data Eraser. By offering data-security information to 500,000 visitors, the company is now the trusted source for instructions on erasing cell phone data before the phones are resold or recycled.

ReCellular also conducts an advanced multiple-point check on each phone it collects in order to permanently erase all personal and corporate data before they are processed for recycling or resale.

"ReCellular encourages all consumers to use the Cell Phone Data Eraser to clear their personal information prior to reselling or recycling a cell phone," Chuck Newman, ReCellular founder and CEO, was quoted as saying in a press release. "With today's integrated technologies, more and more phones contain not only personal contacts but photos and e-mail that contain private details of our lives."

The increasing use of multi-function smart phone, which have important information like e-mail messages, contacts, calendar entries and photographs, has made wireless information security a critical requirement for businesses and individuals. The Ponemon Institute has reported that each breach of security costs an average of $182 per record.

"ReCellular is the world leader in cell phone recycling, having collected more than 15 million phones, and has never had an incident involving the release of personal information after a phone has been cleared," Newman had added. "If users follow the instructions provided by the Cell Phone Data Eraser they can feel confident that their information is protected."

In 2007, the company expects to recycle an estimated 4 million used cell phones (over 15,000 phones every work day). The growth of the wireless industry has driven the rise in cell phone donations over the past five years. At the same time, ReCellular is increasing its efforts to create consumer awareness of wireless recycling.

ReCellular reconditions and resells nearly half of the used cell phones to wholesale companies in more than 40 countries around the world. Through this, it expects to generate over $60 million in sales in 2007, which will account for 25 percent of the global market for reconditioned wireless phones and accessories.
