Xerox Corporation Strengthens Green Technology Efforts, Joins U.S. Climate Action Partnership

Greenhouse gas emissions are accountable for much of the changes occurring in today's climate.

In order to protect the environment from these changes, there must be awareness and new policies to reduce green house gas emissions.

In the technology space, green initiatives seek to reduce these greenhouse gas emissions through new innovations in technology, and many businesses are stepping up to take responsibility by implementing changes that support improvement of the environment.

To further support climate change and energy conservation, Xerox Corporation announced today they have joined the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP).

The USCAP is an alliance of business and environmental leaders who work together to protect the climate and help spur legislation and regulation for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

USCAP now currently consists of 31 organizations and according to XEROX; they are the first high technology company to join the alliance.

Ursula M. Burns, Xerox president commented on the news in a statement to the press, "It makes sense for us to be the first high-tech company to join USCAP, where we can help set goals, priorities and policies that align industries and the government. Honoring our obligation to the world around us has been, and will always be, the way we do business."

Xerox is no newbie to environmental awareness either. According to a news release, a company-wide 2005 pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 10 percent by 2010 included implementing strategies such as utilizing more energy-efficient technologies, like chemical toner which used about 25 % less energy to produce, as well as improved processes to reduce the demand for energy and use of renewable energy sources as well as equipment and parts that are more sustainable, to help meet their reduction target.

Xerox also plays a key role in the Energy Star program and has more than 50 percent of their products meeting the requirements for the Energy Star seal set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. The company is also involved in many other initiatives set to save our environment.
