Silk, a company offering Silk Soymilk, said that its Green Caps for Green Energy program continues to educate the public about the importance of “clean, sustainable wind power,” and lets them know that supporting domestic wind energy can be as easy as taking “a trip to the grocery store.”
Introduced two years ago by Silk, the Green Caps for Green Energy program furthers the company’s mission to make the “world a healthier place by giving people a chance to make a real difference,” according to company officials.
Designed to convert the purchase of Silk Soymilk into increased funding for wind energy, the Green Caps help replace the power produced from burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas with clean, renewable power created using wind turbines.
To benefit from the clean wind energy, customers have to purchase any green-capped Silk Soymilk product and enter the product's UPC number at SilkSoymilk.com.
Officials explained that for each UPC number entered, Silk will donate 30 kilowatt-hours of green tags to grow the national green power grid.
Silk is working with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a nonprofit partner, to ensure that consumer contributions through the Silk Green Caps for Green Energy program go directly to funding wind farms across the country, including the Gray County
“Over the past two years, Silk has successfully engaged several hundred thousand individuals across the U.S. to take action and show their support for wind energy,” said Patrick Nye, vice president of Green Tags at the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
He also said that in terms of consumer response, the Silk Green Caps for Green Energy program competes among the most successful utility green power programs in the nation.
Silk officials said that they have also created an online toolkit to engage people who share a passion for supporting renewable energy sources.
