Supporting The Green Grid (News - Alert) in its effort to improve energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems, Astaro Corporation, a vendor of integrated security appliances, has announced it has joined The Green Grid. Astaro (News - Alert) is a general member in the Green Grid and will collaborate with other members to improve and promote efficiency in network security.

With this solution, companies can minimize energy consumption and reduce physical waste while tailoring to any network infrastructure as the solution integrates disparate network security products onto a single solution as a software, hardware or virtual appliance, according to Jan Hichert, chief executive officer at Astaro.

“With more companies concerned about the effects their business’ practices are having on the environment, Astaro is proud to be part of an organization working to progress green computing to the next level,” said Hichert. “Through collaborative developments and idea sharing enabled by The Green Grid, we hope to provide organizations with more energy efficient security solutions while ensuring they understand that this does not need to come at the expense of compromising their network security or increasing costs.”

Astaro Corporation is headquartered in Burlington, Mass. and Karlsruhe, Germany. The company specializes in Network Security. Astaro products are distributed by a worldwide network of nearly 2,500 solution partners who offer local support and services.

The Green Grid is a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. The consortium is focused on the following: defining meaningful, user-centric models and metrics; developing standards, measurement methods, processes and new technologies to improve data center performance against the defined metrics; and promoting the adoption of energy efficient standards, processes, measurements and technologies.
