Reseller and recycler of used wireless phones and accessories ReCellular (News - Alert) Inc. has announced that it had signed a partnership agreement with Oregon-based Consumer Cellular, a mobile virtual network operator
, to launch cellular phone recycling program.
As per the agreement, Consumer Cellular customers can mail their used or unwanted cell phones directly to ReCellular for recycling or reuse. Customers can also take their phones to Consumer Cellular for drop off in on-site collection boxes.
Under the program, people can mail their mobile handset to the recycler free of cost.
ReCellular says the agreement will directly benefit a children's hospital and help meet the special needs of children seeking medical attention.
"Consumer Cellular is thrilled to have partnered with ReCellular to launch a customized cellular phone recycling program. From an environmental viewpoint, we believe it is critical that our customers get an easy way to dispose of their old cellular phones," said John Marick, President, Consumer Cellular, in a press release.
Consumer Cellular and ReCellular have claimed in a joint press release that they are offering a better and easy option for disposing of unused cell phones. About half of the phones collected will be reused after reconditioning and reprogramming. And later the reused phones will be sold to wholesalers.
Phones that cannot be resold are dismantled and recycled, causing no harm to the environment.
