Complete Wireless Management with TIMS from Amtel

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

What does “complete lifecycle telecom expense management” mean to you? It you’re like most enterprise managers, the gold standard for a modern TEM platform is one that handles all aspects of both wireless and landline communications expense management.

As companies are discovering, unifying wireless and landline expense management isn’t always easy. Part of what makes it complex is the inherent complexity of wireless management — a discipline that’s even more time-consuming than traditional landline TEM.

The need for a unified system to manage wireless and landline is taken seriously by TEM firm Amtel (News - Alert). The company developed its Telecom Life Cycle Management System (TIMS) with just this need in mind.

TIMS can be divided broadly into four main modules, outlined below.

Procurement  — Centralized management of ordering mobile phones and associated services, landline voice lines, data circuits, calling cards, conferencing solutions, Internet access, pagers, long distance service and more. It also allows for service/device bundles to be easily created and tracked, as well as centralizing moves, adds, upgrades and disconnects.

Billing Audit and Management  — Staying on top of bills is one of the most effective ways to cut costs. This module handles monthly invoice entry and audit, a hierarchical invoice approval workflow, integration of GL codes and cost center allocations, troubleshooting and resolving disputes, and rate optimization using pooled plans.

Inventory Management  — Recording and tracking the location and use of all services and devices. Also allows detailed information to be entered, such as the speed of a particular service.

Reporting and Analysis  — All the data in the world is of not use until it’s organized and presented as information. TIMS reports do just that, making available a huge variety of reports on a hierarchical-based privilege system so that, for example, certain reports are only viewed by the CTO or the IT manager while others are accessible also to end users.

As the point above illustration, the introduction of wireless management into the TEM universe does not have to make things more complex or time-consuming for enterprises. With the right tools, wireless management can become efficient and ensure ROI by saving the company money.
