The hottest trend in wireless headsets today is Bluetooth technology, according to Scott Knorp, Quagga’s Collaborative Technologies Division President.

 

Quagga is a distributor of Plantronics headsets.

 

The newest Plantronics headset model—the 510S—is very appealing to a growing number of customers who want to use their wireless headsets at home, in the car, and at work.

 

“They’ve been pretty popular,” Knorp said.

 

Knorp explained that the 510S comes with a charging station which can be plugged into any desk phone, and transmits voice signal to the headset.

 

This feature is useful for an increasing number of people who like to port their headsets with them everywhere, and aren’t willing to wait for their companies to offer Bluetooth-enabled headsets to employees.

 

“People usually are ahead of their companies technologically,” Knorp noted.

 

Another reason for the popularity of Bluetooth headsets like the 510S is the need for safety while driving.

 

“A lot of states are enacting laws that require people to use a wireless headset,” Knorp pointed out. He said that most people realize that they are safer making hands-free calls while driving, and find wireless headsets much more convenient than models that physically connect to the phone.

 

“If they do have a Bluetooth phone, typically that will let them use voice activated dialing as well,” he added.

 

The only limitation of using the 510S Bluetooth headset is that its range maxes out at 33 feet. That can be compared to the best-selling regular Plantronics CS50 cordless headset, which has a range of 150 feet.

 

Knorp said that the range of Bluetooth is not a problem for most people, because they’re typically close to their cell phone in the car, or use their headset to make calls from a cubicle at work.
