VoIP-Optimized Plug-and-Play Bluetooth

Voice over IP (VoIP) adoption is growing globally at a tremendous rate, largely because of the cost savings it offers to both businesses and consumers, but also the additional features enabled by in an IP environment. By 2010, the IDC has predicted more than 44 million U.S. households will have subscribed to VoIP services.
 
Coupled with the tendency to multi-task and to maintain open lines of communication while off site, and VoIP’s permeation of both business and personal communcations, what users need is a wireless device that is VoIP-compatible. Enter wireless headset developer Plantronics.
 
Plantronics has unveiled the first Bluetooth headset specifically optimized for VoIP communication. The Voyager 510-USB, which provides wireless connectivity to PC-based softphones, reflects Plantronics’ innovation in creating VoIP products that not only are functional, but also feature style-conscious design, high-quality sound, and ease of use.

The Voyager 510-USB includes a plug and play Bluetooth USB adapter that eliminates time consuming software-based setup, enabling mobile professional and consumers to engage in one-step hands-free VoIP calling.  Plantronics’ latest innovation also features multipoint technology, which enables switching between multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices, including softphones and mobile phones, with the touch of a button.
 
The system integrates with enterprise softphone software from leading companies — including Avaya, Cisco, Nortel, Skype, and others — to offer call notification and remote call answering through the headset. It also is compatible with most popular consumer VoIP services, like AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!.
 
“The Voyager 510-USB makes VoIP intuitive. In doing so, enterprises benefit from reduced IT support and maintenance costs, and professionals benefit from a reliable, easy-to-use wireless headset for their softphones and mobile phones,” said Will Stofega, research manager at IDC.
 
The headset comes complete with a desktop charging stand, three-foot USB cable, AC charger, and software to enable electronic answer-end control with major VoIP softphones. Features of the new Voyager 510-USB include:
 
  • Noise-canceling microphone and wind-reduction technology for brilliant sound both indoors and out;
  • Lightweight, foldable design for all-day comfort and easy storage;
  • One-touch call answer/end, last-number redial, and voice-activated dialing with compatible mobile phones;
  • Boom swivels for use on either ear;
  • Up to six hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby time;
  • 33-foot roaming distance. feet away from voice-enabled Bluetooth devices
 
In addition to the new Voyager 510-USB, Plantronics also offers an entire line of wired and wireless VoIP products suitable for business or home use. Its products include a 900Mhz wireless headset with 200-foot range, a series of USB-to-headset adapters for contact centers and enterprises, a selection of corded PC headsets in various styles, and more.
