These days, it is virtually impossible for a business to continue to expand without offering its employees continuous wireless connectivity that allows them to make near to real-time decisions in regards to important business-related topics.
A vital part of any wireless network is a router that serves as “the connective heart to all the devices in the home. When that router can no longer handle multiple devices or the amount of content streaming through your home, it causes a kind of panic and frustration none of us could have imagined 10 or 15 years ago,” a recent piece revealed.
Realizing the sheer importance of promoting wireless connectivity within the enterprise environment, earlier this year, Cisco teamed with Landor Associates in order to develop trendsetting packaging for its Linksys (News - Alert) routers and accessories. This not only helped set itself apart from others in the space, but the new product can also efficiently handle increasing traffic and bandwidth demands on a current infrastructure.
Due to the fact that around that time period Linksys had debuted a Smart Wi-Fi platform that was created from the ground up to seamlessly integrate with wireless routers that would enable users to control their devices from anywhere with custom-built apps, the company first needed to get its wide customer base to closely analyze how big of a router they needed.
“We immersed ourselves at retailer sites where we shadowed consumers; we explored online environments and interviewed developers and key thought leaders within the Cisco (News - Alert) Linksys team. We came to understand that choosing a router was really about capacity: the size of a consumer's home plus the number of devices that might run at the same time. Being the daughter of a former hosiery manufacturer, the age-old hosiery chart kept popping up in my mind: Height plus weight equals pantyhose size. Simple. Clear. Elegant,” company officials added.
Being able to view key documents and connect with colleagues from anywhere with a reliable Internet connection and at any time is the exact reason the wireless connectivity vertical is growing by the day.
Just last month, ABI Research (News - Alert) revealed that the annual shipments of wireless connectivity combo ICs is expected to cross the two billion mark by 2017. While smartphones comprised nearly 60 percent of total wireless connectivity combo IC shipments in 2011, it is predicted that over the next five years, laptops and tablets will begin to leverage combo ICs in record numbers.
"Combo ICs have seen strong adoption in the smartphone market as attach rates of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are very high. This move towards combo ICs has not only helped reduce BoM costs but has also changed the competitive environment entirely," said Peter Cooney, practice director, in a statement. "Whereas once there were many competitors, all focused on individual technologies, there are now fewer vendors with wide product portfolios able to push combo ICs into many new markets."
