Industry observer Dan Miller (News - Alert) evaluates the Fuze Box update, Fuze Meeting online conferencing service, finding that the company is "hoping the improvements will give it an edge over rivals WebEx and GoToMeeting."
Like those other two, Miller says, Fuze Meeting "lets you set up meetings online. You can share your screen, upload meeting materials for online presentation, talk to meeting participants via teleconference, and record the proceedings."
Last October TMC's (News - Alert) Raju Shanbhag reported that Fuze Box announced that its Fuze Meeting facility is now generally available for the BlackBerry (News - Alert) Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones.
Since launching the service last year, Miller says, Fuze Box "has been trying to differentiate it from WebEx and GoToMeeting on several fronts." And there are differences - Fuze Meeting doesn't require a software client, being entirely Web-based, and claims its service supports higher-resolution graphics than its competitors, "making it particularly good for creative professionals.," Miller notes.
Interestingly, if one of your participants forgets to dial-in, Fuze Meeting's 'fetch' tool lets you quickly dial that person's phone. Or BlackBerry.
"With Fuze Meeting, the users of BlackBerry smartphones can launch or participate in a web meeting from their mobile device," Shanbhag says. "Fuze Meeting makes use of features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, faster processors and elegant displays, available in Backberry phones and enables users to view video content, images and documents."
There are new features in this latest version of Fuze Meeting, Miller says, such as meeting replay: "After your meeting is over, you can download a full recording of it, including all the shared content. Also, the service's interface has been revamped and, the company claims, simplified."
And of course there's the ubiquitous iPhone (News - Alert) app. Don't worry. Everything has an iPhone app.
