The utilization of Web meetings in businesses continues in its upward trend. Analysts at Ovum have anticipated that in the next five years, Web meetings will grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 18 percent.
Global business spending on Web meetings, by 2015, will be close to $2.7 billion as compared to the $1.2 billion spent in 2010.
The growth in Web meetings makes sense, says Ovum (News - Alert), “with globalization and home-based working, staff and businesses are spread all over the shop and it's worth spending money on a Cisco teleconferencing product, for example, over a business-class round-trip jolly from the States to Japan. While cost is a factor, cutting carbon spending scores browny points too.”
As video streaming improves, so does the popularity of Web meetings. In a press release, report Author, Richard Thurston, said, "The technology is maturing and can now offer a quantifiable and much strong return on investment. Because of this, we expect rapid growth in Web conferencing to occur over the next five years."
A recent survey by Cable & Wireless, however, reveals that some business men in the U.K think they are more likely to clinch a deal if they meet in person. In a statement, Matt Key, managing director of enterprise at Cable & Wireless (News - Alert), said, "What this research demonstrates very clearly is the importance that people still place in actually seeing peers and associates to discuss business matters.”
Nonetheless, as TMC’s (News - Alert) Rajani Baburajan reported, “Web meeting” is the buzzword for businesses in 2011, and essential to business productivity down the line, with video and Web conferencing emerging as the “main technologies” of the decade. The increased use of video and Web conferencing has already escalated the demand for bandwidth in enterprises.
