Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services is getting more popular, and experts are constantly working on improving the technology to help individuals and businesses make utmost advantage of this technology.
Vonage (News - Alert) is a Vo IP network and SIP provider. The company has been developing innovations to help its customers with good quality services at a reduced cost. The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently granted two new patents to Vonage Holdings Corp.
- U.S. Pat. No. 8,744,422, "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," is for a technology that prompts a customer's mobile carrier to activate a call forwarding feature that enables low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones when traveling internationally. This is Vonage's fourth patent related to this technology and the ReachMe Roaming feature, launched for the Vonage Mobile app on April 23 this year.
- U.S. Pat. No. 8,731,162, "Systems and Methods for Matching Call Detail Records for the Same Communication Generated by Different Elements of an IP Telephony System," relates to technology that enhances a VoIP provider's ability to ensure quality-of-service and troubleshoot quality issues. This patented technology enables the provider to recognize when two separate legs of a call, such as an original call and a transfer of that call, are part of the same communication.
"Vonage continues to develop innovations that enhance the customer experience with VoIP communications, with our latest patents for technologies that intuitively improve the quality of VoIP calls and reduce costs for customers. These patents also increase the value of our patent portfolio, which we continue to build," Kurt M. Rogers, chief legal officer, said in a statement.
With nearly 2.6 million subscriber lines, Vonage provides a suite of residential and business communication solutions for both landline and mobile phones. Vonage's residential service is sold on the web and through telesales and regional and national retailers, and its business service is sold through Vonage Business Solutions telesales and channel partners.
The company now owns 43 U.S. patents and has more than 225 U.S. patent applications pending, along with numerous foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
