The Network Test Automation Forum was founded by Breaking Point Systems, BT, Cisco, Ericsson, EXFO (News - Alert), Empirix, Fanfare Software, Ixia Communications, JDSU, Spirent Communications and Verizon.
Verizon’s Keith Kidd, a 30-year telecommunications veteran and an expert in systems-and-equipment testing programs and processes, has been named president of the newly formed Network Test Automation Forum.
NTAF is an industry-sponsored forum consisting of service providers, network equipment manufacturers, and test equipment vendors. They work together to facilitate and promote the interoperability of commercial testing solutions and test infrastructure for the data communications and telecommunications industry prior to actual deployment.
Commenting on the testing process, Kidd, a director in Verizon’s (News - Alert) Network and Technology Labs, said that the process for testing equipment to be deployed in networks can be streamlined and ultimately this would lead to faster technology introductions and better service for customers.
Defining the role of the forum, Kidd stressed the fact that automated testing was no longer a luxury, but a mandatory requirement for organizations engaged in defining, developing and delivering new services. The process of automation would not only improve the speed to the market, but would also reduce the overheads normally associated with the service or product.
The forum asked test equipment vendors to collaborate with their customers in order to define an automation framework. The introduction of test automation systems would benefit test engineers and lab managers, as there would be accelerated deployment of next generation network products and services.
NTAF is professionally managed by Association Management Solutions, and helps associations and communities expertly manage the wide array of administrative, financial and operational needs.
