On the heels of expanding its WDM service, network and cloud solutions provider Windstream (News - Alert) Communications has broadened its geographic reach as well. The company is targeting mid-size and large enterprises in four new markets in Texas, expanding its user base for VoIP and data center solutions in some fast-growing areas.
Windstream is now offering its full portfolio of services to four new areas in western Texas. Enterprise-class unified communications (UC) and data center offerings will be available in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock and Midland-Odessa. The company is aiming to reach a variety of vertical markets with the expansion, including agriculture, education, oil and gas, retail, financial and healthcare.
"Our goal is to be the enterprise service provider of choice across the country, and in particular West Texas," said Edward Hernandez, regional sales director for Windstream, of the company’s aggressive expansion strategy. "This region was in need of an alternate communications provider to drive competitive pricing and offer quality solutions.”
The announcement comes just after Windstream expanded its Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) service to provide dedicated, high bandwidth data center connectivity to enterprises. 1G and 100G services are offered via Windstream’s national fiber network, which spans 121,000 miles and reaches 44 markets. The service is designed to offer latency, transparency and security among locations, along with virtually unlimited dedicated bandwidth.
Windstream has had a breakout year, announcing service expansions in Kentucky, Denver and Florida just over the past two months. In October, the company declared its intent to sell its data center business to cloud and MSP TierPoint for $575 million. The companies are moving forward with a reciprocal relationship to sell each other’s respective products and services, while Windstream is dedicating the new capital to its core telecom offerings.
