VoIP has several million subscribers worldwide, and according to the latest analysis from research firm Point Topic, “its growth looks set to accelerate as predictions indicate a $40 billion annual VoIP market by 2015.” Oliver Johnson, the CEO of Point Topic, believes that this is even a “very cautious projection” and that “it could be much higher” in a years’ time.
As per John Bosnell, Senior Analyst at Point Topic, “the growth of VoIP has been bumpy [an up and down trend since 2011] but shows signs of acceleration.” This is because consumers are seeing VoIP as a superior substitute for traditional PSTN calls, he explains. Bosnell expects there will be over three quarters of a billion fixed line broadband subscribers by the end of 2015, as stated in the report.
“In spite of the positive signs for growth, Johnson said that the VoIP market still faced multiple challenges. While there are technical and mobile challenges, he thinks the biggest challenge will be in regards to regulation,” as mentioned in a post on the WebProNews website, a resource for news, information, and tips related to online business.
Nevertheless, news reports continue to show the growth in the number of businesses migrating to VoIP-based systems for cost savings, with Infonetics (News - Alert) projections putting market revenue at $82.7 billion by 2017; that’s up from $63 billion in 2012. Infonetics’ report shows that businesses continue to shift to VoIP for many different reasons and the demand to adopt VoIP systems is growing because of the popularity of SIP Trunking; hosted VoIP and Unified communications is as big as it has ever been.
For those that have yet to decide on a VoIP solution, whether they are still confused about it or unsure about whether or not such a move will be in their best interest, there is a ‘VoIP eBook’ that is available as a free download from U.S.-based Business Communications Service (BCS). “It explains what VoIP is, why you should use it and some of the things to look out for when you do,” as explained in a post on the WhaTech website, a source of online news.
Since VoIP is much different than the traditional phone system, the free downloadable VoIP eBook that is now available can provide a reliable source of information for those still undecided or wanting more facts before they make the switch.
The eBook, which is a 14-page PDF report, features tips on buying a VoIP phone system, explains the elements of its technology and presents over 25 feature options that can be used in the configuration of the phone system. Furthermore, it tells how to avoid common problems, like making poor voice quality less of an issue. What used to be a very common complaint about VoIP, in fact, now can be easily solved: The eBook mentions the things users can do to remedy the problem. Also, because the VoIP calls travel over public Internet, security concerns are an issue too, as with any Internet-related activity. Again, the eBook discusses a solution: VoIP encryption software.
Lastly, there is a section of FAQs and a Do’s & Don’ts page where users can find answers to questions commonly asked by people who have implemented VoIP technology in their work environment.
Overall, the BCS VoIP eBook is the go-to guide and a solutions mini-manual that one can consult to get a good understanding of VoIP technology, its benefits and potential pitfalls. It’s suitable for those who need a little more info before making a decision, as well as for those who need basic info to just get acquainted with the technology.
VoIP is quickly becoming the communication model of choice for many businesses and private users. It is often more efficient and full of features than old fashioned analog phone systems. The eBook goes as far as to say that “VoIP voice quality remains as good as that of a landline and sometimes can be even better.”
