When it comes to measuring the quality of VoIP service, Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is just the beginning. There are many other ways to monitor, benchmark and troubleshoot VoIP quality.

 

Those various measurements are the subject of a session titled “Overview of Common VoIP Service Quality Metrics & Their Applications,” to be held at Internet Telephony Conference & EXPO (in San Diego October 10-13, 2006). The session, scheduled for 12:00-12:30 p.m. on October 12, will be presented by Scott Sumner, Director of Marketing & Business Development at Minacom.

 

Sumner will examine a variety of specialized metrics used to gauge call connection performance, speech and call quality, telephony service reliability, and fax/Internet quality. These metrics help operators detect service degradation before it is perceived by subscribers.

 

The limitations of various VoIP quality measurements will also be explored, along with appropriate applications and best-practices thresholds. Among the topics that will be included are call connection, echo and noise, and standards-based MOS algorithms.
