Two Wins for Minacom's DirectQuality R7 VoIP Testing Platform

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

During the past week alone, VoIP test solutions specialist Minacom announced two partnerships involving the DirectQuality R7 testing solution: one with interconnect solutions provider Telarix, and the other withIP delivery product manufacturer Edgewater Networks.

Minacom + Telarix Solution for Carriers

In a press release dated September 7, Minacom introduced an integrated routing solution designed for international service provides, which combines the company’s single-ended quality testing technology and Telarix’s routing optimization platform.

“The integrated solution allows carriers to take advantage of the lowest-cost routes available, including next-generation IP/VoIP alternatives, without sacrificing service quality,” Minacom said in the announcement.

Specifically, the solution ties together Minacom’s DirectQuality R7 automation platform with Telarix’s iXRoute optimization solution.

DirectQuality enables tests to be conducted using Minacom’s PowerProbe 6000 probes, eliminating the need for far-end probes, responders, or call data records. PowerProbes can test for a variety of QoS metrics including MOS, noise, echo, call volume, distortion, delay, and fax transmission speed.

iXRoute streamlines routing “by allowing carriers to define business and network requirements to financially optimize their network routing,” Minacom said in its release.

Combining the two solutions means that “service quality information from DirectQuality R7 can be applied to iXRoute’s sophisticated selection algorithms in order to optimize service provider mix, add/drop routes, and monitor service quality measurements,” Minacom said.

The result is that, before service level agreements are violated, partner carriers can take the necessary corrective actions to keep things running smoothly.

EdgeMarc Support for DirectQuality

In another win for the DirectQuality platform, Minacom today announced that EdgeMarc converged networking routers from Edgewater Networks now support the company’s VoIP service quality testing.

EdgeMarc routers, Minacom explained, perform several functions: demarcation point, router, gateway, and firewall. EdgeMarc routers, combined with the EdgeView VoIP Support System, are capable of monitoring VoIP endpoints.

Because the routers now support Minacom’s solution, “DirectQuality R7 test automation OSS can query Edgewater Networks' EdgeView VoIP Support System to collect additional call-level metrics including MOS, jitter, latency and average call duration,” Minacom said.

The practical result of all this, Minacom President and CEO Michel Nadeu noted in a statement, is that “service providers can test directly to customer premises without having to dispatch a technician or install probes on-site.”
