COCUS Deploys Digital Element's IP Geolocation Technology for Telecom Client

COCUS AG recently announced that it has implemented Digital Element’s advanced IP geolocation technology for one of its major clients in the telecommunications sector. Following the deployment, the telecom giant will be able to determine the geographical location of any user using voice over IP (VOIP) services to make a call. This will enable the telecom giant to efficiently route emergency calls, arrest frauds in service usage and meet regulations governing location detection technology.


In a release, Elmar Kinkel, chief operating officer at COCUS, said “Mission critical to the service is the fast, dependable and precise location of potentially nomadic customer premise equipment to ensure service effectiveness of emergency call routing or network update provisioning. We therefore needed to be sure that we were working with IP data that is as accurate and frequently refreshed as possible. We selected Digital Element based on solution trials because they have the most accurate and granular IP location data available globally. In addition, Digital Element’s data is refreshed more frequently than that of any other IP data supplier. Digital Element also provides excellent technical support to resolve any critical issues that may occur.”

COCUS secured a contract with its global telecom customer to deploy a solution for IP geolocation for all access channels in their entire infrastructure. COCUS opted to deploy the solution from Digital Element, which determines the location of a mobile device by its IP address allowing the telecom operator to direct any emergency call to the nearest emergency response center. In the first phase of the roll-out, the service will be deployed in Germany with plans to extend the services to other countries of operation in the near future.

COCUS AG, along with its subsidiaries, is engaged in providing information and telecommunications technology related consultancy services to organizations operating in various industries. The company’s service portfolio includes management and business efficiency consulting, M2M consultancy, mobile network access solutions, mobile payment and business mobility solutions.

Digital Element, meanwhile, is engaged in the development of solutions for IP geolocation. The company’s flagship solution, NetAcuity Edge, is touted as one of the most comprehensive solutions combining IP routing infrastructure analysis with unknown location data captured from partner-derived online end-points. NetAcuity Edge is designed to offer comprehensive hyperlocal datasets while maintaining user anonymity in compliance with the regulations pertaining to user privacy. Digital Element’s list of customers includes Microsoft, VeriSign, AOL, AT&T (News - Alert) and Verizon.
