Established in 2003, SygmaTel initially focused on delivering domestic and international voice, data and signaling services on a wholesale basis from its operations center in Egypt to telecoms throughout the Middle East, with routes stretching from Bangladesh to the United States. As it expanded its footprint to offer hosted retail services, the company wanted to assemble an infrastructure that supports the growing needs of its customers.
"Our goal with SygmaFone, our new retail service company, is to give operators the ability to provide any kind of customer-facing service—even some that haven't been invented yet," said Muhammad El-Sergani, operation manager for SygmaTel, in a statement. "Having PortaSwitch helps a lot with the backbone of the network."
El-Sergani also liked the PortaSwitch open API that provided the company with a number of service modifications as well as its customer management/provisioning/billing software. “Out of the box it provides everything any company would need, from a small IP-PBX (News - Alert) to a carrier-grade wholesale platform."
The PortaOne PortaSwitch consists of a billing software system, Class 4-5 softswitch and media application servers. It helps companies to launch virtually any kind of telecommunications business model and is touted as being ideal for unifying voice and data traffic while supporting a wide range of value-added services.
Moreover, the highly scalable softswitch allows other telephony elements to integrate with Web applications like e-mail, messaging, Internet and video streaming. It even delivers Class 5 features for hosted IP-PBX or IP Centrex, as well as Class 4 features like call forwarding/follow-me, call transfer, instant messaging, teleconferencing, call recording and automated IP phone provisioning.
