Acme Packet (News - Alert), a provider of session delivery networks, has announced that Jazztel, a telecommunications and data transmission carrier offering voice and data services to residential and business customers in Spain, has deployed Acme Packet Net-Net 4500 session border controllers (SBCs) to host IP PBX (News - Alert) services for its business customers, as well as to provide international wholesale peering services and in-country IP interconnects.

Jazztel recently replaced legacy circuit-switched infrastructure with Acme Packet products as they decided to scale their IP communication service offerings.

In a release, Antonio Montero, Network Director at Jazztel, said, "In the twelve years we have been in operation, we have progressively consolidated and expanded our service offering to now include wholesale VoIP, Internet, broadband and carrier's carrier interconnects. We chose Acme Packet products for their flexibility to eliminate a wide variety of interoperability issues with softswitches and gateways used by our peering customers and with endpoints. As a result, we have also been able to provision peering service providers and business VoIP customers much faster."

Jazztel for many years provided small business with VoIP services, recently deciding to expand its capabilities to support large enterprises through hosted IP PBX environments. Jazztel will be using Acme Packet products to replace traditional time-division multiplexing (TDM) switches and converged TDM/IP media gateways under softswitch control in order to scale their business VoIP services.

Dino Di Palma, Acme Packet's senior vice president of worldwide sales and business development, said, "Jazztel has taken advantage of the latest IP communication technology and successfully monetized this investment across several business models. We worked closely with Jazztel on a technical level to help them scale both their retail and wholesale communication services."

In related news, officials at Patton (News - Alert) (News - Alert) (News - Alert) SmartNode and 3CX have “teamed up” to help small- to medium-enterprises “realize the cost-savings and improved inter-office communications of VoIP technology.”
