Patton SmartNode, 3CX 'Team Up' for SME VoIP Help

Officials at Patton (News - Alert) SmartNode and 3CX say they have “teamed up” to help small- to medium-enterprises “realize the cost-savings and improved inter-office communications of VoIP technology.”

Described by Patton officials as “mutually certified as fully-interoperable,” the technology partnership is a way to “preserve investments in legacy computer phone, and fax equipment by combining SmartNode VoIP gateways with a 3CX soft-IP-PBX (News - Alert).”

The way it works, according to company officials, is that companies can use SmartNode VoIP gateways to connect existing hardware and systems to the PSTN and the IP-telephony network.

The Patton website has a good selection of helpful videos on the topic, and others of interest. As a gateway expert and guest on the 3CX VoIP blog, Marco Liechti of Patton is featured in a three-video series talking about what a VoIP Gateway (News - Alert) is, when it makes sense to use one together with a 3CX phone system (part I), how to install and configure the setup (part II), and finally, basic VoIP Gateway troubleshooting techniques (part III).

In July, TMC’s (News - Alert) Rajani Baburajan reported that Patton announced the launch of two new SmartNode product series for ISDN BRI VoIP users and service providers.

The new SmartNode 4120 Single/Dual-Port BRI VoIP gateway and the SN-DTA Singe/Dual-Port BRI VoIP Digital Terminal Adapter expand the range of NT/TE port combinations available from SmartNode. They include features such as PSTN fallback, phantom power, and a high-precision clock that solves VoIP interop issues with DECT (News - Alert), PBX, and FAX.

SN-DTA and SN4120 provide replacement options for Patton’s S-DTA, SN4552, and SN4554, which are approaching end-of-life.

“The ISDN market demands exceptional service quality,” said Bernhard Fluehmann, Patton’s Converged IP Product Manager, in a statement. “ISDN users are notoriously picky, yet SmartNode has a strong reputation for high quality among ISDN customers. With our expanded portfolio of BRI VoIP gateways we will satisfy a greater share of ISDN service-provider requirements to meet the true business needs of many more satisfied customers.”
