VoIP Switch: 'Sippy Web Phone' Calls on the Web

When it comes to communications, more and more people are becoming accustomed to connecting when, where and how they want to. The Sippy Web Phone (News - Alert) from Sippy Software Inc. is one tool that enables folks to do just that by allowing the addition of phone capabilities to web applications.

The solution is ideal for retail Internet telephony services because it allows subscribers to make VoIP calls from anywhere, such as at the airport, in a hotel room, from an Internet cafe or via any public Wi-Fi hotspot, according to Sippy Software.

“By offering this additional network access method, ITSPs can stay competitive, enhance call revenue and increase customer loyalty,” the company says. “The Sippy Web Phone can also improve channels between subscribers and sales or support teams, by allowing subscribers to talk to a representative directly from their browser via the company's web site.”

Unlike traditional softphone solutions, the Sippy Web Phone can work with any browser or platform. It doesn’t require installation. And it leaves no personal information on a computer after use. That’s important, according to the company, because subscribers may not want, or may not be allowed, to install any third-party applications; and they may not want to leave any personal information behind on a computer that they don’t own.

The Sippy Web Phone – which is licensed on a per-domain basis to make it affordable – is offered as a module integrated with the Sippy Softswitch. Is also is available as stand-alone OEM product for integration or customization with third-party web applications. An AJAX interface allows for easy customization and branding.

The product supports SIP 2.0 (RFC 3261) signaling; G.711 A-Law, G.711 mu-Law and GSM codecs; DTMF RFC 2833; and Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla (News - Alert) Firefox and Apple Safari browsers.
