The VoIP industry grew by an astonishing 16.7 percent last year, according to a recent article from VoIPReview.org. More and more customers are signing up for VoIP in their homes and businesses, and users are taking advantage of multiple mobile VoIP options.
In addition to the significant savings that VoIP can offer over traditional landlines, VoIP is easy to install. Usually, installation only requires plugging a phone into a jack and requires no visit from a technician.
Also, most calling plans are month-to-month, which allow customers to easily add additional lines or take them away if they no longer need them.
With a landline, installation tends to be expensive, and tech visits are required to add additional lines.
With VoIP, most calls within the U.S. and Canada are available at no charge. By bypassing the public phone system and using the Internet, VoIP providers can provide much cheaper connections for international calls as well. VoIPReview.org compared VoIP rates for a call to China (two cents per minute) with AT&T’s (News - Alert) pay-per-use rate ($3.49 per minute).
A 20-minute landline call to China would cost $69.80, while a 20-minute VoIP call would cost just 40 cents.
In addition to delivering for both residential and business customers, VoIP providers are becoming adept at delivering to customers on the go. By offering call forwarding and mobile VoIP apps, these companies ensure that customers never miss a call, even when they’re away from their homes or offices.
Another advantage of VoIP is that all of the bells and whistles come standard with the plan. For example, features like voicemail, call forwarding, auto attendant, music on hold and three-way calling are included in most plans.
Landline companies, on the other hand, often add on monthly fees for these services.
More and more customers are taking advantage of the cost savings, ease of use, mobility and multiple features available with a VoIP plan. Landline providers have long worried about customers cutting landlines and switching to cell phones. With the rising popularity of VoIP, landline companies have something new to worry about.
