If you believe that “the days of vicious battles between Skype (News - Alert) and networks seem to be behind us,” then you probably also agree that “as the carriers realize that VoIP is here to stay -- and perhaps they should be trying to profit from it themselves.”

That’s the studied judgment of industry observer Cian O’Sullivan, who writes that “one company that wants to get in on that trend is VoIP provider Vyke – which has announced the launch of Vyke Reseller, a global initiative to make selling its VoIP vouchers easy for telecoms resellers.”

Vyke is an application-based service augmenting regular mobile phones calls with VoIP, as O’Sullivan notes, explaining that “it never attempts to replace an operator voice call, like Skype does. It offers products that enhance existing operator services, by adding VoIP functionality and reducing international call rates.”

Last month TMC (News - Alert) had the news that Vyke Communications' subsidiary Vyke launched a branded Vyke UK website for Vyke Mobile.

Customers accessing the vyke.com website from the UK will see a UK specific portal, supplementing the established global site and offering the same products and services, but with rates and offers specifically targeting the UK mobile VoIP market.

The initial launch, to selected potential customers, will be followed up with marketing campaigns over the coming months. A US-targeted website is also under development which will capitalise further on experience and company's alliances with BLS Tel Holdings and Bonjour Europe.

Using the app Vyke customers can call other Vyke users for free, or access the “Callthrough” service, which “subsidizes the costs of international calls to make them much cheaper,” O’Sullivan says.

But this latest offer, O’Sullivan says, is “offering other telecom resellers the opportunity to sell Vyke call credits and vouchers through their own website or property. The resellers would buy the credit in bulk from Vyke (at a discount), and sell it on to their own customers.”

Mohammad Asif, chief executive of Vyke, said that “by launching Vyke Reseller we are taking a considerable step towards increasing Vyke Mobile sales globally. Resellers will benefit from selling a truly convenient, low cost and simple to use product that will save their customers money on international calls and messages.”
