More and more small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are deciding to deploy converged voice / video / data networks on their premesis. Once such a network is up, though, it may not perform as well as expected.
Kentrox designed its Quality of Service solution, the Q1300 Appliance, for just such customers--keeping in mind two key criteria: affordability and simplicity.
The Q1300 is ideal for SMBs that either don't have a Quality of Service solution installed on their network, or are finding it difficult/expensive to implement QoS solutions provided by their existing vendors.
Affordability
When researching Quality of Service solutions, many SMBs find that they won't just have to upgrade their hardware and purchase a license, but possibly buy new software too, Brian Proulx, Senior Systems Engineer at Kentrox, told TMCnet.
“That becomes expensive,” Proulx pointed out.
Kentrox solved the cost problem by creating a product that is not only affordable in and of itself, but also doesn't require any special software.
The Q1300 comes with a graphical user interface that is accessed using a standard Web browser. Graphical printouts showing network performance also are provided. If the network is not performing optimally, adjustments can easily be made.
Simplicity
"You don't have to be a network engineer to understand it," Proulx said of the Q1300.
Kentrox's Quality of Service product is an out-of-the-box solution. It comes pre-programmed with an acceptable QoS prioritization level, which is adjustable by the user.
All that's required to get the Q1300 installed on a network is two ethernet cables and A/C power. The rugged, metal-cased box sits on the LAN side, and connects to the WAN access router.
