VoIP Week in Review: VoIP Cost Savings too Large to Ignore

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Welcome to the latest edition of TMCnet’s VoIP Week in Review featuring this week’s top headlines in the VoIP industry.

This week, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based provider of business VoIP and UC solutions announced it achieved record growth in 2009.

According to officials with Nextiva Inc., the company recorded growth of over 400 percent in new business customers.

Also this week, ShoreTel (News - Alert) announced it was selected as the “VoIP Preferred Technology Partner” by Cal Net Technology Group

The company chose ShoreTel after evaluating several other providers because of the ability to integrate rich communication media and presence together with business processes to streamline collaboration and improve efficiency.

A London-based developer of VoIP platform solutions also made headlines this week the announcement that the company will be participating at the upcoming 2010 Barcelona GSMA Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) happening February 15-18.

According to officials with Voiceserve subsidiary, VoIPSwitch, this is the company’s first time participating and will be the only company exhibiting a mobile VoIP dialer.

Also during the show, company officials said they will launch the VoIPSwitch Blackberry Dialer.

In a move to help its enterprise customers further optimize their IP Telephony networks, a Bedford, MA-based provider of VoIP monitoring solutions also introduced this week a new voice quality assurance solution.

According to officials with Empirix (News - Alert) Inc., the Empirix OneSight Voice Quality Assurance Solution actively monitors bi-directional voice quality across multiple, geographically dispersed sites so that end-use voice quality can be assured.

Also this week, Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) introduced new HD and low light IP cameras with SIP/VoIP support.

The GXV3611_HD (720P high definition) and GXV3611_LL (low light) progressive scan CMOS fixed dome IP surveillance cameras will be marketed to retail stores, restaurants, campuses, casinos, apartment buildings and business offices and are positioned as providing a cost-effective, open-standard surveillance solution that can be easily implemented to provide 24/7 security protection of people and assets.

Finally, a new report this week by Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) notes the benefit of cost savings offered by IP telephony is “too large to ignore.”

Not only is IP telephony critical to long-term strategic initiatives, but according to the report, “IP has emerged as the foundation for a number of technologies designed to build a new cost-efficient infrastructure for the enterprise.”

'Today, cost savings, coupled with the need for tools to create a collaborative environment, which in turn drives innovation and productivity, makes IP essential to their strategy,' Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst, Vanessa Alvarez, said.

The report, “World Enterprise Telephony Platform Markets,” also found that while the market generated $7.6 billion in 2008, revenues will decline, and then again stabilize to $7.6 billion in 2014.

That’s all for this week, but be sure to check back with TMCnet throughout the week for all the latest headlines in VoIP news as it happens! Until next week…
