Designer and manufacturer of rugged handheld computers Juniper Systems has begun to ship all models of its rugged handheld, Archer 2, across the world.

Previously, the company was shipping Standard Archer 2 models only to North America, but now these have been tested, received additional certificates, and are shipping worldwide.

“We are very excited to see all of our Archer 2 models going out the doors to locations all over the world,” said DeVon Labrum, vice president of Sales & Marketing at Juniper Systems.

What make this Archer 2 unique are enhanced GPS capabilities for challenging terrain and an extra-bright IllumiView display.

All models of the Archer 2 also come with a battery that is touted to last more than 20 hours and a very good Ingress Protection Rating or IP68 rating, which demonstrates the amount of protection from specific elements.

“Every single component in the Archer 2—and all of our handhelds, for that matter— has been meticulously selected for quality and ruggedness to meet the needs of our customers,” added Labrum.

Juniper Systems provides innovative mobile technology to natural resources, public works, geomatics, agriculture, industrial, and military markets. The company was in news last month for launching a virtualized security portfolio called Firefly Suite.

The new offering introduces a virtual version of the Juniper Networks (News - Alert) SRX Series Services Gateway called Firefly Perimeter and provides dynamic, granular, and secure connectivity for both the private and public cloud.

Firefly Suite also introduces an application that automates the management and deployment of Firefly Perimeter.

Last week, Juniper Systems’ Archer Field PC was selected to record the elevation of Gamlang Razi, a peak in the remote Myanmar Himalaya.

“We want to congratulate Andy Tyson and the team for a successful summit of Gamlang Razi, especially for collecting data that seems to support his and others’ recent claims that Gamlang Razi is the tallest peak in Southeast Asia,” said Trevor Brown, Natural Resources Market Manager at Juniper Systems.
