Patton Continues Excellence with Microsoft Lync Certified SmartNode Product Line for SMBs

By Allison Boccamazzo, TMCnet Web Editor

Earlier this year, Patton (News - Alert) revealed that its esteemed line of SmartNode products would become certified with Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync. Since then, the company has continued to maintain its successful stride and activity in the Lync community, including valuable market insight and collateral.

After conducting some experimental trials at Microsoft’s recent Toronto-based Worldwide Partner Conference, the company found that there was a heavy need in the community for a gateway providing SIP to Lync conversion for customers’ existing non-certified IP equipment. Some examples of this include Cisco (News - Alert) phones, soft phones and IP paging equipment.

How can this be achieved, though? You needn’t look any further than Patton’s SmartNode solutions for Microsoft Lync.

While some small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) find implementing Microsoft Lync into their existing networks to be challenging due to incompatibility issues, the desire is still very strong to do so. Ultimately, companies with all of the right capabilities are being denied due to various pieces on their network not being compatible or certified with Lync, including:

  • Non-compliant SIP phones
  • Non-compliant IP-PBX (News - Alert)
  • PSTN Lines
  • Analog phones
  • ISDN phones
  • Fax
  • PBX

This is where Patton’s SmartNode VoIP Gateways come into play. Now Microsoft Lync Certified, the Patton SmartNode VoIP Gateway (News - Alert) offers SMBs more leeway to be able to connect non-compatible SIP endpoints, PTSN lines and legacy telephony to their Lync environment.

Take, for example, connecting non-compatible IP equipment. Those who have already invested in IP equipment may find it difficult to integrate Microsoft Lync, as their current investment may not be properly certified. This is where the SmartNode works to provide “SIP to Lync” gateway between the non-certified equipment and Lync – even including H.323.

Additionally, SMBs looking to achieve the connectivity needed for VoIP calling will find Patton’s SmartNode Gateways – combined with Microsoft Lync Server – ideal, allowing them to enjoy all of the benefits of Lync with continuous use of their trusted PSTN lines and existing telephony service provider.

Patton’s SmartNode VoIP Gateways ultimately allow SMBs to install Lync without suffering the normally prohibitive costs of replaying existing non-compatible equipment with new Lync-certified ones. Furthermore, they can continue to use their PTSN lines if desired, leaving the door wide open if they are simply not ready to leave it behind.

Patton will be exhibiting at the ITEXPO West 2012 at booth #1014. To be held Oct. 2-5 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX, ITEXPO offers an educational program to help corporate decision makers select the right IP-based voice, video, fax and unified communications solutions to improve their operations.
