Patton (News - Alert) Electronics' SmartNode VoIP Gateway has recently received a bit of an upgrade thanks to CyberData Corporation's new partnership with Patton, announced yesterday. The partnership will provide extra functionality to Patton's SmartNode VoIP Gateway (News - Alert), and for Microsoft Lync users, the news will be especially welcome.
Patton's partnership with CyberData (News - Alert) now permits CyberData's line of non-certified hardware to work with Microsoft Lync, which by itself is exciting news. Moreover, thanks to the partnership, the SmartNode will now also work along with CyberData's line of IP speakers and intercom hardware, allowing users access to overhead paging, as well as two-way communication door phones as well as access control systems.
Giving Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync users access to an IP Paging / Access Control solution hasn't been easy to come by before now. With Patton's SmartNode Gateway, the non-certified CyberData IP Paging / Access Control device finally had a gateway it could use to reach Microsoft Lync, and CyberData's skill and reputation in the IP endpoint sector gave Patton's SmartNode a worthwhile system to back up. This in turn allowed the two to work easily in concert to provide a solution that hadn't previously been readily available.
In fact, based on word from Phil Lembo, CyberData's CEO and President, it wasn't just that a solution wasn't readily available, it was that there hadn't been an easy and affordable way to get such a solution until now. Lembo further describes the solution as "the market's first IP Paging / Access Control solution for Microsoft Lync."
It's a prime example of how partnering can help make new solutions out of currently existing products, thus allowing both firms access to markets that were formerly unavailable to them. The combination of Patton's systems and CyberData's systems allowed them to not only tap a market that they hadn't been able to get into, but also allowing them access to a market that, previously, no one had been able to get into. This combination of skills to yield access to new markets made for a great move for CyberData and Patton, and may well portend more such measures to come.
