VoIP Gateways: Patton Unveils Two New Versions of SmartNode

By Amanda Ciccatelli, TMCnet Web Editor

Patton revealed availability today for the SmartNode 4120 Single/Dual-Port BRI VoIP gateway series and the SmartNode DTA Singe/Dual-Port BRI VoIP Digital Terminal Adapter series for ISDN BRI VoIP users and service providers.

The SN-DTA and SN4120 product lines, announced June 2011, are now in full production. The new SmartNode SKUs expand the range of NT/TE port combinations with enhanced features such as PSTN fallback phantom power. They also include a high-precision clock eliminating interoperability problems with DECT, PBX (News - Alert), and FAX in VoIP implementations. The single-port TE gateway and dual-port NT gateway also provide cost-effective solutions for customers.

Solutions such as Patton’s (News - Alert) high-precision clock enables first-line IP-telephony performance with reliable fax and modem services in troublesome ISDN and DECT environments.  The dual-port NT offers a fallback port with built-in phantom power to connected ISDN devices when the fallback port is not in use.

“ISDN users are notoriously picky, yet SmartNode quality and reliability have earned great respect within the ISDN community. The new BRI solutions are very well received. We expect similar enthusiasm for the new digital-analog hybrid due out soon,” said Bernhard Fluehmann, Patton’s Converged-IP Product Manager, in a release.

Having developed over 1000 products including SmartNode VoIP solutions (SIP and H.323) for analog and ISDN telephony, Patton is a multi-national organization that designs, develops, and manufactures electronic communications equipment for network access, connectivity, voice-over-IP, triple play and video surveillance.

Award-winning SmartNode equipment delivers leading VoIP technology that integrates with existing analog POTS and digital ISDN infrastructures.  It has interoperability with all major brands of softswitches and iPBXs making it easy for carriers to deploy future-proof VoIP systems quickly and profitably. Patton is developing an 8-to-24 call VoIP router offering up to 8 BRIs, up to 8 analog FXS/FXO interfaces, and 4 Ethernet ports. The SmartNode is designed to IP-enable legacy ISDN-PBXs, analog phone/fax/answering machines, and/or analog audio-intercom systems with a single device.Recently, Patton unveiled the SmartNode 10200 carrier-grade VoIP media gateway series, supporting up to 2048 voice or fax calls over T1/E1, DS3 or STM-1/OC3 trunks with SS7 signaling. Last year, the company expanded the SmartNode PRI gateway line by adding three new model series.
