Patton Electronics Shows off Reliable, Cost-Effective SmartNode 10200 at ITEXPO

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Patton Electronics has shown off a high-density, carrier-grade VoIP media gateway at ITEXPO (News - Alert). Known as the SmartNode 10200 VoIP, it is part of a media gateway family of products for carriers and large businesses.

With this new version, Patton’s (News - Alert) SmartNode portfolio extends beyond the previous call range of two-to-120, the company says. The new version supports up to 2048 voice or fax calls.

“Our SmartNode 10200 is the industry’s most reliable — and cost-effective — solution,” Burton A. Patton, executive vice president of Patton Electronics, said in a statement upon the product’s unveiling at ITEXPO in Miami.

The new version has inter-protocol transcoding, and offers T1/E1, DS3 or STM-1/OC3 trunks with SS7 signaling, the company said. It was described as “a high-capacity solution for 512-to-2048 SIP/H.248 VoIP or T.30/T.38 fax calls in a 2U form factor,” the company adds.

The SN 10200 can provide carriers high-density SIP/H.248 VoIP and TDM/SS7 voice and fax at the same time, according to the company statement. The SN10200 can interconnect traditional and iPBX phone systems, and delivers “high-volume SIP trunking with sustained performance levels up to 90 completed calls per second (CCPS),” according to the company statement. It also offers transcoding for all voice codecs and signaling protocols. The SN10200, too, operates with major softswitches.

And the new version uses on average two-thirds lower power than alternative options, which leads to more economical energy use.

It is deployed as customer-premise equipment (CPE), and the SN 20100 lets carriers update “legacy service networks toward IP-centric architectures,” the company explained.

"The global network is still converging," Burton A. Patton said in a statement. "Although legacy equipment is aging, it provides reliable service. Traditional PSTNs still generate revenues and profits. Carriers need classic TDM and advanced IP networks to interconnect and interoperate.”
