Dialogic (News - Alert), which sells communications technologies that power advanced networks, has announced that Aircel (News - Alert), a mobile operator in India, has selected the DialogicVision1000 Video Gateway (News - Alert) as the Aircel 3G video calling platform.

The implementation of video services is part of the bigger 3G deployment being undertaken by Nokia Siemens Networks for Aircel to offer advanced mobile broadband speed and other services.

Discussing the company’s new developments, Mallikarjun Rao, CTO of Aircel said, “We are looking forward to deploying our 3G network and using the Dialogic video gateways and media platforms in our network.”

The Vision 1000 Video Gateway, Rao said, is their choice for the Indian market "given its flexibility in terms of both a scalable video gateway and a multimedia server, and the fact that it features real-time any-to-any video trans-coding and rate adaptation on demand." The gateway is expected to enable the best quality video experience for end users.

Sandeep Girotra, head of business solution sales of India region at Nokia Siemens Networks said, “Completion of a voice call on a video phone is possible with the Vision 1000 gateway even when the receiver of the call does not have a video phone. This is important, as most of the subscribers in India are still in the transition phase toward using video-enabled phones.” This is a safe assumption as most Indians don't have video-enabled phones yet.

Adding his thoughts on the partnership, Nick Jensen (News - Alert), CEO of Dialogic said, “We are pleased to offer our robust Vision 1000 gateways in partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks for the Aircel mobile network.”

"Dialogic in the mid-nineties was the major company producing hardware and software building blocks in what we at the time called the computer telephony, or CTI (News - Alert), arena," he added.
