SOHO Telecom Services Spending on the Rise

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

According to the latest research from In-Stat (News - Alert), spending on communications technologies in the small-office-home-office, or “SOHO” market will surpass $17 billion in 2015.

“The overall spending trend in SOHO spending will see a 20 percent increase over the next five years,” says Greg Potter,  In-Stat analyst.

According to Potter, there will be pockets of spending in products and segments that are more significant than others.

Healthcare and social services, construction, and retail trade market segments, for example, will experience the largest overall gains over the forecast period, - each increasing their overall spend by $240 million.

In addition, the report notes that cloud computing, as a product category, continues to experience the largest percentage of growth.

In-Stat estimates that Software-as-a-service spending will increase to almost $800 million in 2015 while the professional services vertical segment will spend $2.5 billion in 2013.

The research firm’s report also noted that wireless data spending increase 45 percent from 2010-2015.

But, among all the services, cloud computing continues to experience the largest growth in terms of percentage, growing roughly 150 percent, according to the research.

This report, “SOHO Markets for Telecom Services: Wireline Voice, Wireline Data, Wireless, Cloud Computing, and VoIP in 20 Verticals,” covers services including wireless data (access and other, messaging), wireless handsets, and wireless voice services; local services, domestic long distance, international long distance, toll-free services, other services; application-based VoIP, broadband IP telephony, hosted IP PBX, premises-based IP PBX, TDM centrex, TDM PBX, and traditional TDM; public cloud services: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS (News - Alert); co-located services, and dedicated server services; and ATM, Ethernet, frame relay, cable, DSL, IP VPN, MPLS, T1/T3, other services.

In related news,  In-Stat also recently noted that mobile application download revenues will surpass $29 billion in 2015. This research finds that the mobile applications market is growing rapidly and will continue to evolve in the coming years, adding new products, players, and business models.
