Law School Deploys VoIP with No Compromise, Thanks to UniPhyer

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Vermont Law School is known and respected internationally as a center for the study of environmental law. The school has placed first 13 times since the U.S. News & World Report environmental specialty rankings began in 1991, including the past two years, and has never placed lower than second.

But the law school has to deal with more routine issues to keep its campus well-run. The law school was interested in a VoIP communications solution, but had no ability to do disaster recovery for power except for its main building.

The law school did not have a plan to overcome its power issue and had the consultant, GreenPages, not recommended the Phybridge (News - Alert) UniPhyer, they would have had to give up on deploying IP telephony.

With UniPhyer, Vermont Law School was able to use a centrally-located UPS power strategy and have an easy disaster recovery plan. Without the UniPhyer, this VoIP install would not have been possible.

"We were impressed with the support from Phybridge. They said it was easy and it was,” said Ralph Kindred of GreenPages (News - Alert).

GreenPages is a consulting and integration organization that helps clients fully virtualize their environment and transform their data center and IT operations to strategically leverage the power of cloud computing.

The Phybridge UniPhyer is a VoIP enabler that leverages existing telephony cabling to provide a complete IP network for voice and data, which allows users to centrally converge with the LAN.

The Phybridge UniPhyer instantly provides a dedicated path for voice, QoS and POE to every desktop.

IP PBXs and IP phones deployed over the Phybridge UniPhyer can offer the robustness of traditional telephony systems and the easy mobility of IP phones.

The UniPhyer enables an optimized network with many business and technical benefits. All experts agree the best way to deploy IP phones and optimize a network for convergence is to have separate physical connections for both voice and data, centrally converged. The UniPhyer delivers this by leveraging the existing voice infrastructure to create a physical path for voice, leaving the data topology intact. This results in a guaranteed IP telephony deployment at a fraction of the cost and with no business or network disruptions, the company said.
