Aculab's New ApplianX IP Gateway

By Richard Grigonis, Executive Editor, IP Communications Group

For many years now, Your Truly has followed Aculab’s (News - Alert) “building block” approach to developing wireless and wireless hardware and software for the converged networks of both enterprises and service providers.

Back in 2006, Aculab first impressed us with the ApplianX family of voice and video IP gateways, SIP trunking gateways, media servers and related equipment. ApplianX is based upon Aculab’s own innovative Prosody X technology, and comes in scalable, high availability configurations, thus making it suitable for even huge carrier class service providers as well as enterprises.

The first two ApplianX products ever to roll off of the production line were the ApplianX IP Gateway and ApplianX VoiceXML (News - Alert) Media Server.

And now, Aculab has announced general availability of its new ApplianX IP Gateway, a resilient, single-purpose, easy-to-manage, plug-and-play device.

Easy to use and subject to low administrative costs, the ApplianX IP Gateway (News - Alert) has been enhanced to support many capabilities and a wide range of international protocols, making the device suitable for worldwide deployment in both enterprise and service provider networks.

Indeed, enterprises, SMBs, and service providers alike can now enjoy a cost-effective and flexible device to deliver next-gen communications solutions through their existing infrastructure. Thus, it not only satisfies the evolving communications requirements of these various companies but also enables such customers to extend the lifecycles of their existing equipment and take a phased approach to VoIP and unified communications adoption.

A number of leading solution providers, including Avaya and Cisco (News - Alert), have already certified ApplianX to allow integration with legacy TDM-based PBXs.

The latest version of the ApplianX IP Gateway includes enhancements, such as support for Diversion, Transfer, Message Waiting Indicator, Route Optimization, Three Party and Hold functions over SIP, Q.SIG and DPNSS protocols, making it perhaps the first gateway to deliver these capabilities to both SMB and enterprise customers.

Further improvements include a wider range of routing options for both SIP-to-TDM and SIP-to-SIP conversions, as well as improved load balancing between endpoints on a round-robin basis, ensuring that calls are automatically routed away from unresponsive endpoints. TDM fallback support enables the ApplianX IP Gateway to complete inbound and outbound calls even in the event of an IP network failure.

Aculab’s ApplianX IP Gateway provides an alternative for customers that want to deploy IP but don’t want to experience the massive disruption and expense of replacing their infrastructure.

The ApplianX IP Gateway is available through ApplianX-approved resellers throughout Europe, North America and Asia. You can find resellers at www.applianx.com.
