NTT America, a part of NTT Communications (News - Alert) Corporation that provides a wide range of global networks, management solutions and IT services to customers worldwide, has announced to introduce VLink, a multi-location Ethernet solution that offers direct connectivity to content providers, Internet Service Providers or 'ISPs,' and enterprises, across their multiple locations. The solution helps them to fulfill their multi-location operations without relying upon point-to-point connections.
As the popularity of cloud-based computing model is growing day by day, an extensive number of companies have been adopting it for moving their internal IT services to cloud-based environments and also developing innovative solutions so that the complicated needs of their customers can be addressed.
With the help of VLink, companies located in the United States will be able to seamlessly integrate 'Wide Area Network' or 'WAN' accessibility into their existing Ethernet-based 'Local Area Networks' or 'LANs' without having to spend additional money. The solution acts as a 'Layer 2 Virtual Private Network' or 'L2VPN' solution, and establishes an enhanced path on the network that can be deployed to carry data, voice, and video on the same physical link. It promises enhanced security in the connectivity, so that enterprises can conveniently interconnect their corporate Ethernet-based LANs or even migrate from private lines to an Internet-based solution without worrying about the security threats that are usually linked with data transmission upon the Internet.
Additionally, the enterprises can harness the reach and reliability of the NTT Com Global Tier-1 IP Network to deploy VLink for connecting to three or more 'Point of Presence' or 'PoP' locations in the United States. The solution is also helpful for them in integrating their L2VPN and Internet access, which might be IPv4 or dual-stack IPv4/IPv6, on the same physical port. It cuts down the number of required ports and connections.
For meeting diverse requirements of the enterprises, the VLink solution is available in three configurations. First one of them is VLink Direct, a point-to-point architecture that links any 2 locations, while VLink Plus connects a primary location with 2 or more other locations. This solution is often used in a headquarter and satellite office environment. VLink Mesh, the third solution helps in connecting 3 or more locations to each other, establishing a fully connected model.
According to Teri Francis, Executive Director, Customer Solutions at NTT America (News - Alert), as more and more companies look to the cloud for cost-effective network solutions, the delivery method for critical data is key. Francis noted that VLink reduces the need to manage disparate technology platforms and enables customers to deliver information in a more secure and efficient manner.
Recently this month, NTT America announced that Dyn, a provider of managed DNS Dynamic Network Services (News - Alert) had selected the company to help power the Web infrastructure of customers like Zappos, Netflix and Twitter.
