By Amanda Ciccatelli, TMCnet Web Editor

As the 2012 Presidential Election nears, news reporters will be traveling all over the country to cover the election. So, VoIP services will be essential to news teams to ensure that election coverage is always supported no matter where the reporters are located.

Alteva, a cloud-based Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) solution provider, has been selected to provide a portable HD telecommunications solutions to ABC News at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL (August 27-30) and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC (September 3-6).

Based in Philadelphia, Penn., Alteva (News - Alert), is a cloud-based Unified Communications (UC) solution provider that offers a reliable network, responsive and proactive customer service and value to its customers. It cloud-based UC solutions include Voice over IP phone systems and service (VoIP PBX (News - Alert)), hosted Microsoft Communication Services, fixed mobile convergence, and advanced voice applications for the desktop. Also, Alteva’s service requires minimal installation while eliminating monthly phone and on-premise system maintenance charges.

The ABC News political team covering the conventions will operate from an office on wheels including a hosted UC solution from Alteva that will support production crews, reporters, and anchors with e-mail, faxing and HD voice communications and can be moved to remote locations frequently, supporting multiple broadcasts.

Through the Voice over IP (VoIP) platform, Alteva will provide redundancy in two backup locations to ensure secure access to communications functions, and serve as a precautionary measure for impending hurricane conditions in Tampa. Additionally, the solution will give reporters the ability to make calls and send faxes during the high traffic news cycle.

"We were able to test and prove our solution within a 24 hour window and selected as the vendor of choice due to our unsurpassed customer service and quality of communications solutions,” said Louis Hayner, chief sales officer, WVT Communications Group. “These are hallmarks of our services for each and every one of our customers, and we are delighted to have been selected by ABC in support of such high profile events on a national stage.”

By combining Alteva's voice service with Microsoft (News - Alert) Communication Services products, including Microsoft Exchange, Office Communication Server (OCS), and SharePoint, Alteva's customers receive a high-quality, voice-enabled UC solution that integrates with existing business applications.
