Houston Businesses Improve Productivity with New Comcast Business VoiceEdge Solution

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Comcast (News - Alert) Business Services has just launched a new cloud-based voice and unified communications solution in the Houston region. The new Comcast Business VoiceEdge is a fully managed solution delivered over Comcast’s network, eliminating the need for expensive premise-based PBX (News - Alert) equipment or hardware. The service also guarantees a predictable monthly cost and high service quality to improve communications and productivity.

Comcast Business VoiceEdge is the latest addition to Comcast suite of voice solutions that includes Business Class Voice and Business Class Trunks. Business Class Voice is offered for small businesses while Business Class Trunks is an intelligent phone service for larger organizations that works with existing PBX equipment.

It allows Comcast to provide customers with an affordable solution with unlimited nationwide calling, state-of-the-art Polycom (News - Alert) phones at no additional charge, HD audio, and a host of advanced UC and mobility features including Be Anywhere, Voicemail-to-email, Telephony Toolbar, Business Voice Continuity and Multi-Location Simplicity and Commonality.

"Our cloud-based voice service has already increased efficiency and reduced costs for customers in markets throughout the country," said Ted Girdner, vice president at Comcast Business Services, Houston region, in a statement.

"Combined with our other data and video offerings in the Houston region, Business VoiceEdge provides another way for customers to simplify their IT and business operations, reduce equipment costs and gain peace of mind that their voice service is backed by a reliable network," Girdner added.

Offering advanced unified communications features and high definition (HD) voice quality, the new solution allows multi-site organizations and mobile workforces communicate more efficiently. The service is now available across 19 states in Comcast's network, with availability in additional Comcast markets to be completed by the end of 2012.

Recent industry reports suggest that the service of Comcast and other cable companies have, to an extent, helped drive the VoIP momentum in the country. The VoIP landscape in the U.S has been ruled by cable companies and non-facilities based VoIP providers such as Skype.

The VoIP market is also buoyed by the entry of bigshot companies like Microsoft and Apple (News - Alert) along with Internet giants Google and Yahoo!, Nationwide Telecom, a provider of wholesale VoIP services said.
