Independent industry analysis firm Synergy Research released the results of its two latest reports for the IP-based voice industry, citing Sonus Networks (News - Alert) as the market share leader in major categories.
In the reports "Q2 2006 Service Provider VoIP United States Market Shares" and "Q2 2006 Service Provider VoIP Japan Market Shares," Sonus sustained the number one market share position in the high density gateway market with 44.7 percent in the United States and 80 percent of the high density gateway market in Japan. Sonus’ deployments with many of Japan’s biggest service providers, such as KDDI and NTT Communications contributed to Sonus’ success in the Japanese market.
"Japan is a very exciting market for us to be in, as Japanese network operators are among those that are farthest along in their migration to all-IP networks," said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks in a press release. "Both the United States and Japanese markets are proof-positive that IP-voice is a mature technology and Sonus Networks has the right solutions, service and support to help operators be successful."
In the United States, Sonus’ IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS)-ready architecture has been deployed in some of the largest wireless and wireline networks. Officials at Synergy Research reported that in Q2, Sonus exceeded market growth within Tier 1 and emerging networks.
“As these operators continue to rely on Sonus to grow and support their networks, Sonus' position as a market leader is continually reaffirmed," said Jeremy Duke, president and CEO, Synergy Research Group.
One of the most recent providers is Whaleback Systems who reported this week the deployment of Sonus’ GSX9000 Open Services Switch, PSX Call Routing Server, SGX Signaling Gateway (News - Alert), helping Whaleback Systems to target the SMB market. By utilizing Sonus’ IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-ready architecture, Whaleback Systems will expand upon its voice over broadband offerings.
