Comcast Business Expands Service

Comcast (News - Alert) Business is trying to capitalize on the growing business presence in North Salt Lake, Utah. It has expanded its network to reach hundreds of businesses in the western side of that part of town – operations that will have access to Internet speed as high as 10 Gbps.

The approximate area of expansion in Salt Lake has taken place north of the city’s Main Street and to the west of Interstate 15, which runs north to south along the area. Comcast’s delivery of high-speed Internet to the region could reach as many as 450 businesses that currently make it their collective home. Of course, not all businesses there have yet signed up for the new service; on the other hand, there is always the potential for more businesses to open shop and take advantage of the offer.

One current customer, Jonathan Davis who works for B Space Salon, noted that his Wi-Fi speeds have made his customers happy, a sentiment that Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce President Lane Beattie noted could help that part of the city continue to thrive.

“Comcast’s expansion in our area will benefit many local businesses located north of Main Street and west of I-15, which is an important area for our local economy,” Beattie said. “Historically, this area has been the backbone of industry in North Salt Lake, dating back to the large oil refineries, and we want to continue the momentum by having access to advanced technology like Comcast.”

The expansion here comes as more than just the offering of broadband connectivity. Comcast’s business unit is dedicated to providing voice, video, and data with its handful of dedicated business packages. This includes Ethernet Dedicated Internet, Ethernet Private Line, Ethernet Virtual Private Line, and Ethernet Network Service alongside the option of Comcast Business VoiceEdge, which offers unified communications from the cloud. This most recent announcement comes off the heels of Comcast’s late-2015 jump into the Sugar House business district of the city.

Not all businesses in the area will require all those packages just as they will not all require 10 Gbps speed. However, they will have the option to choose the packages that work best for them. Local businesses can also scale by moving up broadband tiers that offer higher speeds, so they will never outgrow the options available for them.

Comcast’s presence in the area was reportedly built on the momentum that Salt Lake carries. The telecom said a number of local businesses had already signed up for Comcast; therefore, expansion became necessary to meet the growing demand for high-speed service that locals were obviously willing to use. Continued growth of businesses in the area should loop back to Comcast to make this journey worth its effort. Comcast can support existing businesses, which may grow due to better service; that service may then invite new businesses to consider laying down their own roots. A full cycle that seeks to benefit all involved. In North Salt Lake and in the Sugar House area, businesses are apparently getting all the tools they need to work efficiently and at high speed.
