Human Resources professionals are going to need more advanced communication and collaboration tools, according to the Converged Technology Group, a Managed Services Provider based in Islandia, New York.

"Tomorrow's workforce will be more flexible and collaborative than ever before. By providing both job-seekers and current employees with the technologies that make them most effective, human resources professionals can attract, develop and retain top talent  for their organizations,"  Leo E. Galletta, president and CEO of Converged Technology Group, said. "These tools include, but are not limited to, video conferencing technologies for candidate interviews and team meetings and BYOD technologies for an increasingly mobile workforce."

The company cited a recent Cisco (News - Alert) Connected World Technology Report that said 40 percent of Generation X and 60 percent of Generation Y professionals considered themselves “supertaskers” using mobile devices. These professionals said they used two to three work and personal devices, with the most important device by 2020 being a smartphone.

Faced with the challenge of attracting and retaining a new generation of talented employees, Converged Technology said there were three major areas communication and collaboration can meet their expectations.

While videoconferencing is now a mainstream business tool, HR departments can use it to interview candidates in different parts of the country and world, letting them find potential new hires from anywhere. Nearly 60 percent of HR professionals said they would hire a candidate just from videoconferencing.

Since mobile devices are essential for younger workers, supporting BYOD is a must for them.

Along with support for BYOD, more workers are finding they need to access their work 24/7. This means they need tools like business video to offer more flexibility for employees to connect from anywhere and collaborate using mobile devices.

Work has evolved from agricultural to industrial to an always-on, mobile world and HR will need to evolve to catch up.
