Tata Communications (News - Alert) recently announced the introduction of its mobile VoIP platform. The white label, hosted solution has been designed to enable mobile network operators and retail voice providers to provide advanced converged IP communication services and generate new streams of revenue. Featuring a wide range of capabilities, the mobile VoIP platform aims to support faster release of customized packages, which will help in enhancing brand and revenue value.

In a release, Christian Michaud, senior vice president of product and business strategy, Global Voice Solutions, Tata Communications said, "Mobile operators are looking for ways to evolve their services portfolio to better meet the needs of their end users. Our mobile VoIP offerings allow operators to gain additional revenue from today's 'always connected' users, and create new market segments without the significant upfront capital investment and lead time required for true native rich communication services."

Mobile network operators using the Tata Communications mobile VoIP platform will now be able to deliver simplified and converged communication services to customers like voice, chat, video and file sharing, thereby improving the customer experience and loyalty and average revenue per user (ARPU). Operators will also be able to use the platform to introduce their own mobile VOIP app, which can be made available to customers over all major smartphone and desktop platforms. The app can be integrated directly into the existing user management, billing and reporting solution via a web API.

Anthony Cox, associate analyst at Juniper Research (News - Alert), said "mobile VoIP can be used by MNOs or indeed fixed-line or cable players to address specific target markets or develop new service bundles such as video conferencing. Such services may be difficult or even impossible to deliver through traditional carriage methods."

The mobile VoIP platform is a part of the company's Voice Business Apps suite and will help mobile operators address the growing need for improved revenue and monetization via mobile innovation. The app allows users to view their contacts available to message, talk, chat, or video call. Consumers using the app will also be able to view their address book contacts and all their social networking contacts from popular social platforms will be quickly synced. Instant video conferencing, voicemail, follow-me, identity numbers, private numbers, and local numbers in permissible geographies are among the other features of the app.
