Cloud computing presents a new way to distribute the tools essential to running a successful business, and the mentality that on-demand software encourages has completely changed the way enterprises handle their IT needs. Now the concept of cloud computing is being coupled with another technology burning up corporate wish lists: video conferencing.
BT (News - Alert) Conferencing has announced that it will be upgrading its hosted video conferencing solutions to include a broader range of previously unsupported protocols and endpoints. The upgrade will allow those using the solution to more effective participate in global video conferencing campaigns. Businesses will gain the ability to use a variety of hardware endpoints including standard and high definition video cameras as well as mobile devices.
Because this solution is offered in a hosted capacity, companies can choose to incorporate it for as long or as short as they’d like, without the addition of hardware outside a webcam and a computer.
BT conferencing is hoping that these improvements will encourage companies to utilize its hosted video conferencing solutions for two reasons. First and foremost video conferencing empowers businesses with an improved platform for collaboration and conversation, aiding in mission critical decision making. Secondly and perhaps more admirably, video conferencing can reduce a company’s impact on the environment by reducing the need to travel.
Richard Lowe (News - Alert), CEO, BT Conferencing, said: "BT's Interoperability services help customers to receive a greater return on their investment, by reducing the need for travel. As part of our Global Video Exchange family of services, organizations can now connect to different video endpoint technology both within and outside of their enterprise, giving them the advantage of meeting with whomever they wish, regardless of where they are. By extending the reach, quality, and effectiveness of communications, we are offering a real alternative to how organizations collaborate with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and partners by helping drive productivity, lowering carbon emissions, and reducing travel costs thereby transforming business."
Video conferencing solutions are a driving force in IT. When coupled with a hosted distribution method, they offer companies an inexpensive entry point to a more collaborative and communicative experience.
